A positive case of COVID-19 detected in the Mount Allison community was announced yesterday by Acting Vice-President, International and Student Affairs Anne Comfort.
Students and staff of the university were alerted by email that a person who lived off-campus tested positive, but had been self-isolating alone throughout the duration of their time in Sackville.
CHMA was able to get a hold of Comfort today to go over the details of the case, and confirm that all in all it does not pose a significant threat to the general public due to its isolated nature.
Comfort was unable to confirm whether the person was tested during one of Mount Allison’s rounds of COVID-19 testing.
She did confirm, however, that the person had travelled into New Brunswick from out-of-province. They began self-isolating upon their arrival in New Brunswick.
The person was asymptomatic at the time of the diagnosis, and Public Health is checking on them every day.
As of the time of this conversation (Friday, January 22 at 3:45PM), Comfort had no new cases to report.
[CORRECTIONS: Anne Comfort’s title was originally stated to be Director of Wellness and Accessibility. Comfort’s current title is Acting Vice-President, International and Student Affairs.]
Just curious… If they were self-isolating, how did they contract the virus?
Hi Linda,
Good question! If you listen to the audio, you will hear that Anne Comfort confirms that the person had recently travelled into New Brunswick from out-of-province. After their arrival, they began their self-isolation period.
I will add a line to the article that includes that information to avoid further confusion.
