(Atlantic-France-Halibut)

Canada and France have reached an agreement allowing fishers from a tiny archipelago near Newfoundland a portion of the annual Atlantic halibut catch.

The federal Fisheries Department says fishers from the French territory of St-Pierre-Miquelon will be allowed three per cent of the total allowable catch, which is set each year by Canada.

The department has been working with France to reach such an agreement since 2016.

The new agreement allows French harvesters to fish halibut in French waters and the high seas, but not in Canadian waters.

(NB-Fredericton-Pool-Funding)

The newly formed Local Governance Commission is being asked by Fredericton City Council to intervene and solve an impasse between New Brunswick municipalities.

The conflict stems from a proposed aquatics centre and its multimillion-dollar price tag, as directors with the Capital Regional Service Commission failed to agree on who should fund the project.

A recent cost analysis on the project hasn’t been provided, but the 2020 assessment plotted the project at 40-million dollars.

Officials say the facility’s design process is still underway, so the cost could also change.

(NB-Fatal-Crash)

New Brunswick R-C-M-P say a 25-year-old woman from Nackawic is dead following a crash involving two side-by-sides earlier this month.

Police say they responded to the crash on Route 104 in Millville on September 14th.

It’s believed a side-by-side, carrying two people was attempting to cross the road when another side-by-side travelling south collided with it.

The Mounties say a woman was taken to hospital and has since died, while the driver of the side-by-side that collided with the victim’s vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.

(Halifax-Encampment-De-Designation)

The Halifax Regional Municipality says people experiencing homelessness will soon no longer be allowed to sleep at the University Avenue green space in the city’s south end.

Starting November 1st, unhoused Haligonians living at the site just west of Dalhousie University will have to relocate.

The city says the space will no longer be safe for people due to the high volume of people living at the encampment site and the need for snow clearing.

The city says people sleeping rough will have five weeks to relocate to provincially-funded shelters or to other designated encampment sites.
