In Newfoundland, seven new cases were announced Sunday, and that province now has 104 active cases of COVID-19.

INCHING CLOSER TO 75%, BUT DRAMATIC RAMP UP NEEDED TO MEET JUNE 7 GOAL

New Brunswick has made a bit more progress on its way to vaccinating three quarters of people 12 and over.

62% of those 12 and up have now received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. That’s about 55% of the full population of New Brunswick.

In the past week, just over 50,000 new doses were administered in the province.… Continue

COVID update: Three new cases in Zone 1, ‘Path to Green’ announced, phase 1 slated for June 7

Cross border commuters who have been under “house arrest” in the Tantramar region and elsewhere may get a reprieve as early as June 7.

At a news conference on Thursday, Premier Blaine Higgs, Health Minister Dorothy Shephard, and Chief Medical Officer of Health Jennifer Russell announced the province’s “Path to Green” re-opening plan, an aggressive timeline which could see an end to all public health restrictions by August 2, New Brunswick Day.

The first of the three phases in the plan could kick in on June 7, if New Brunswick can reach a rate of 75% of its population 12 and over having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

If we reach that goal, cross border commuters will no longer be required to isolate, though isolation requirements will still be in place for other travellers across the Nova Scotia border. The plan lifts isolation requirements for travellers from PEI, Newfoundland, and the bubbled communities of Avignon and Témiscouta in Quebec, but leaves Cumberland County and the rest of Nova Scotia under current restrictions.

Phase two of the plan could kick in on July 1, Canada Day, and would include Nova Scotia in lifted travel restrictions, effectively re-establishing the Atlantic bubble, at least on the part of the New Brunswick government.

PEI also announced a plan on Thursday that includes opening to the Atlantic bubble at the end of June, and Nova Scotia has yet to announce its plans.… Continue

On Wednesday, the province reported nine new cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick and one new case in a New Brunswicker outside the province.

For the second day in a row, Zone 1 has six of those new cases. Two people 19 or under, three people in their 20s, and one person in their 90s have tested positive for COVID-19 in Zone 1. All six cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.

The Fredericton region also has three new cases, all linked to previous cases. At a briefing Wednesday, Dr. Jennifer Russell shared concerning news about a single case of community transmission in the Fredericton region.

“This is an infection that we cannot trace to other cases in the area. Now this is concerning, because to date we have been able to link virtually all the active cases in that zone,” said Russell. “However, we do believe that this case is a different strain and not related to the other cases of COVID-19 now present in the Fredericton area.”

New Brunswick now has 134 active cases of COVID-19, and there are 27 active cases in Zone 1.

NEW POTENTIAL PUBLIC EXPOSURE NOTIFICATIONS

Public Health also identified new potential public exposures on Wednesday. The Zone 1 notifications are as follows:

Another school in Fredericton has been closed for two days as a result of a connected case, and Public Health added to a long list of potential public exposure sites in the region.

There are now 134 active cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick, and 16 of those are in Zone 1.

Across the border in Nova Scotia, another two cases were reported in the Cumberland Health Network, which may be connected to the potential public exposure notices issued for Amherst.

On Saturday the Nova Scotia Health Authority published notices for the Amherst Kent Building Supplies and Amherst Walmart. The exposures happened over various times from May 13 to 19.

The locations are “considered low risk” and people who were at these location during the times specified are encouraged to get tested, but no isolation is required, unless of course they have symptoms.

The Cumberland Health Network now has ten active cases, eight of which have been reported in the past week.… Continue
