Strategic voting hurts third parties the most, says politics prof

On today’s show, we get a lesson in strategic voting from Mount Allison politics professor Mario Levesque. Beauséjour voters might not find any strategic advantage in voting outside their natural political preference, says Levesque, but the phenomenon is having an effect across the county, especially affecting smaller ‘third’ parties.

Plus in briefs:

  • There are six candidates so far for the riding of Beauséjour, and an all-candidates forum slated for April 15 in Middle Sackville.
  • Sackville football player Owen O’Neal was named male athlete of the year at the annual Night of the Mounties banquet last Thursday, alongside volleyball player Erica Astephen, who was named female athlete of the year.
  • While gas prices are slated to go down today with the elimination of the consumer carbon tax, NB Power rates are schedule to go up by 9.7%.
