Amherst voters have given a strong vote of confidence to Mayor David Kogon electing him to a second term in office, with just 70% of the vote.

However, only one incumbent councillor, Sheila Christie, was able to retain her council seat in the Town of Amherst.

The new council will have three former councillors returning to council: Lisa Emery, Dale Fawthrop and George Baker.

They will be joined by newcomers Leon Landry and Hal Davidson, who had the highest numbers of votes among all council candidates.

Amherst voters also rejected the fluoridation of their water supply, with just over 60% of voters saying no on a plebiscite.
