Another resident of the Drew Nursing Home has died with COVID-19

Another resident of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville has passed away with COVID-19.

Helen Melita Lawrence passed away on Tuesday due to COVID at the age of 97. Condolences and memories can be shared at an online memorial at jonesfuneralhome.ca.

Results on the latest testing conducted Tuesday at the Drew are expected in today. At last report, there were at total of 31 reported cases, 24 in residents and 7 in staff. Three people at the Drew have now died with the disease.

Many in the Sackville community have been asking for ways to help out the Drew, with offers of home cooking and baking piling up on social media. Drew manager Linda Shannon says that staff who are working long hours certainly appreciate treats, but for safety reasons, she is asking that snacks not be homemade. Shannon says the Drew must ensure items coming from outside are sanitized, and so boxes or bags of individually packaged goods are best.

Donations and gifts can be left at the front door of the Drew between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Just ring the door bell and someone will come to fetch the items, says Shannon.

The Drew-Tantramar Foundation also accepts cash donations online through CanadaHelps.org.
