(NS-Houston-Shooting-Anniversary)

It will be five years this weekend since the deadly mass shooting in Nova Scotia that claimed the lives of 22 people.

Premier Tim Houston says Nova Scotians continue to reflect and remember those who died with every day, month and year that passes.

He says the families, survivors and communities affected are in the hearts and minds of the province.

Flags at all government buildings will fly at half-mast on Saturday and Sunday, and Houston is encouraging residents to take a moment of silence at noon on both days.

(Ont-Interprovincial-Trade)

The governments of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario have signed a memorandum of understanding to remove barriers to the free flow of goods and workers within Canada.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, whose government has already passed legislation on interprovincial trade, says the 13 provinces and territories will likely move at different speeds, and come from different places, but he believes all Canadians recognize the need for change.

New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt called the memorandum of understanding a great opportunity, and a way to celebrate Canadian-made products.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says trade barriers within Canada cost the economy up to 200 billion dollars a year.

A 34-year-old man from Kingsclear First Nation in New Brunswick has been charged with attempted murder following what the R-C-M-P are calling a “significant” incident.

Police allege the man barricaded himself inside a house on Tuesday around 12:30 p-m and fired dozens of gunshots at officers through the windows.

They say officers used tear gas to force him and a 50-year-old woman out of the house.

Police say the man is charged with attempted murder, discharge of a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, assault and uttering threats, and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

(NB-Health-Budget-Review)

The New Brunswick government is looking for an independent consulting firm to review the budgets at the regional health authorities.

The province says it wants to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently and effectively to serve the health-care needs of New Brunswickers.

The government says the health authorities’ budgets have increased steadily over the past five years because of inflation, wage pressures and other costs.

A news release says the review will evaluate these expenses and find ways to save money.
