The Maritime Fishermen’s Union is calling on all federal political parties to unveil their full election platforms on fisheries now that the race is into its third week.
A statement from the group says its members have yet to have any official meetings with party representatives to talk about fisheries issues.
The group says the direct economic impact of lobster exports from the Atlantic region amounts to three-billion dollars a year.
The Maritime Fishermen’s Union represents about 13-hundred inshore fish harvesters in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The Fredericton Northside Community Health Centre is adding to its team of doctors and nurses.
The New Brunswick government says the Horizon Network family health team will add two part-time physicians and two nurses in June.
The move is aimed at helping the health centre accommodate another 16-hundred patients.
Premier Susan Holt says the government is actively working improve residents’ access to a primary care providers.

R-C-M-P in Halifax say a 47-year-old woman from New Brunswick has died following a single-vehicle crash.
Police and fire services were called around 9:30 a-m Saturday for a report of a collision on Highway 103 near Exit 5 in the Tantallon area, just west of Halifax.
Police say the driver and sole occupant of a Toyota Matrix was travelling west when it left the road and went into the ditch.
The 47-year-old woman from Dalhousie Junction, New Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Brunswick Power has sent 27 crews of its workers to Ontario to help with power restoration efforts.
As of yesterday, there remained more than 100-thousand customers in the dark following the ice, wind and rainstorm that hit more than a week ago.
Hydro One, Ontario’s utility provider, says crews have restored more than 93 per cent of customers, but new outages are still being reported.
New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt thanked the N-B Power crews that are heading to Ontario in a post on social media.

A lawyer for an Ontario man says his client will plead guilty to charges related to his role in a scam that duped a number of seniors in eastern Newfoundland.
The 27-year-old accused was set to be arraigned in court this morning in St. John’s before his lawyer said a guilty plea would be entered.
The suspect was arrested at the St. John’s International Airport two years ago as he tried to leave the province.
He’s accused of coming to the province to collect thousands of dollars from seniors fooled by scammers who posed as grandkids, police and lawyers asking for money to bail out a loved one in trouble with the law.

Halifax police have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the arrest of a man who suffered a serious injury after he was apprehended.
The Serious Incident Response Team says officers were responding to a call on January 5th about a man who allegedly violated a no-contact order when he resisted arrest.
The police oversight agency says the man was then taken to the ground in “a controlled manner” before complaining of pain in his arm, which turned out to be a fractured and dislocated right elbow.
The director’s summary report says no reasonable grounds were found to believe officers acted with excessive force.

P-E-I’s first net-zero-ready school officially opened its doors today.
The new Sherwood Elementary School features a 100-kilowatt rooftop solar panel system, a geothermal energy system, triple-pane windows, along with electric vehicle charging stations.
Construction started in 2022.
The school is expected to welcome students this September.
