The president of Mount Allison University has committed to an action plan to address sexual violence on campus, to be delivered by the end of the week.

The promise came in a letter to students yesterday, in response to an outpouring of posts and comments on social media detailing experiences of sexual assault and harassment, and disappointment and anger with how the university handled them.

President Jean Paul Boudreau says in the letter:

“We hear you. We hear that we are not doing enough to support survivors. We hear that we are not doing enough to sanction offenders. We hear that we are not doing enough to bring about real change.

More needs to be done. It needs to be done as quickly as possible.”

Boudreau says he and the four vice-presidents of the school have started meeting to, “discuss specific actions and steps that can be taken now and over the coming weeks to support meaningful change in preventing and responding to sexual violence at Mount Allison.”

In his letter, he commits to providing students with “an action plan by the end of the week with steps we will be taking as a university.”
