Canada Post says Sackville early closures will be over in “coming weeks”

The downtown Sackville Canada Post branch has been having a hard time staying open recently. The post office is already on reduced hours “due to COVID-19 concerns and because of a staff shortage”, according to media relations worker Eunice Machuhi. But even those reduced hours, 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, have not been manageable some days at Sackville’s main post office.

CHMA has heard from listeners who keep finding locked doors before posted closing hours, and Machuhi acknowledges that “on several occasions last month, we had to close at 3 pm.”

“We are currently operating with limited staff,” write Machuhi, “although we are in the process of hiring and training employees, who should be on board in the coming weeks.”

There are no currently job postings for the Sackville branch listed on the Canada Post website.

Machuhi points out that those with post boxes at the Main Street location can access the site if they have purchased an access key. There are also full postal services available at Hirtle’s Variety in Middle Sackville, seven days a week, from 7am to 8:30pm.

“We apologize for this temporary disruption and inconvenience to our customers,” writes Machuhi, “and we also thank them for their patience and understanding as we look towards resuming regular business hours as soon as possible.”
