CHMA Remote Live Broadcast (Mac)

Here are the steps to connect to our On Air broadcasting remotely.

You’ll need to have Blackhole Audio installed.

We’re currently suggesting LadioCast, but feel free to use the streaming software of your choice.

After you’ve downloaded and installed LadioCast, you’ll need to set the streaming information:

go to Icecast in the menu.

Here is the connection details:
Host: a6.asurahosting.com
Mount: /
Port: 6985
User: chma
Password: email station@chmafm.com for the latest password

Encoding:
Format: Ogg Vorbis
Sample Rate: 44khz
Bit Rate: 128 (or 192 if you have a good connection).
Bit Rate Mode: Average
Channel: Stereo

The Metadata and other connection information isn’t needed in this application.

Now we need to set up your audio.

Change your mac’s system audio to Blackhole Audio on both the input and the output.

You’ll now need to setup your LadioCast Mixer.
Here’s how it should look:

Screenshot

1 – This is your USB Mic Driver. Please select the correct Microphone option.
2 – This is your Mic channel so both of the channel values need to be set to “1”.
3 – This is your meter. It should average around 85% green. It will turn red if it’s distorting.
4 – This is your level to adjust the output level for your mic – this will be reflected in the meter.
5 – This is the input level for your mic. We suggest +6 but may need to be higher or lower depending on the equipment. If the meter mentioned above is low, increase this value. If it’s too high (or always red) then reduce this value.
6 – Select “Blackhole Audio”. This will redirect any audio from your Mac to the stream.
7 – Input channels. Should be “1” and “2” for stereo sources.
8 – Meter should read approximately 85% for low program material.
9 – Adjusts the input accordingly.
10 – “+18” seems to be a good input value. Adjust accordingly.
11 – This is your output, or where you’ll be listening. Typically set to headphones if you headphones are plugged directly into your Mac.
12 – These are you output meters to the broadcast stream and should read around 85% for a happy stream.
13 – This adjusts your output level to the broadcast stream.
14 – This adjust your monitor (listening, headphone) levels. It’s important that the meters mentioned above are good. Adjust this setting if the meters looks good but it’s too loud in your headphones.
15 & 16 – These are the button that sends the channel to the output or not. The “ON” button. You’ll use these buttons to turn your mic on while talking and off while the music, or other programme material, is playing. The Stereo, BlackHole Audio channel should always remain on, which is red. The Mic channel should remain off, or black, when not in use. You’ll toggle the mic button as you would the on button on our console.

Test you audio and mic and check that the headphone levels are good and the output meters are happy.

When you’re feeling good you can go ahead and connect.

To connect return to the stream setup window and press “Connect.” It will turn red when the connection is successful.

You can also practise or check your levels by listening to the stream before your show starts. Please be very careful since this stream is used by a few other programmers to connect remotely.
A good tip is to use your phone to listen to the test. You can find the remote stream by visiting www.chmafm.com and going to the bottom of any page to find the Staff Login. There you’ll find the Remote Stream link.
***Do not use Thursdays 7-9pm or Sundays 5pm-6pm***

Depending on your connection, there is a 10-15 second delay in the audio on your computer to it being received by the stream.

The next step is to be sure our automation system is set to schedule the “Remote 1 Hr Stream” to go to air. Please reach out to CHMA Programming to set this up. It can be a one-off or weekly reoccurring event.
