Community clean up Thursday in honour of Earth Day

This Thursday, hundreds of Sackville school kids and possibly as many grown ups will be out picking up garbage in a town-wide cleanup in honour of Earth Day.

Deanna Cadman, coordinator of programming and special events for the town of Sackville, says that all three schools are participating in the event, as well as all town employees and other groups such as the Rotary Club.

“We encourage everyone to go out,” says Cadman. “Even if they can’t do a whole lot. Just go in around your yard and between yours and your neighbor’s house and pick up the garbage there, and that will help a lot.”

Cadman says bags and gloves are available at town hall up to and including Thursday. Residents doing a cleanup can also call or email to register with Cadman, and have the option of their filled garbage bags being picked up by the town’s public works department.

The town is hosting some other events for Earth Day, including a ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ photo contest, and online workshops on how to repurpose tee-shirts into shopping bags, sock puppets, neck warmers and headbands.
