Over in Nova Scotia, that province reported another 165 cases of COVID 19 on Sunday, bringing their active case total to over 1600.

There are 11 active cases of COVID-19 in the Cumberland health network, which includes Amherst.

FIRST SHOTS FOR 35% OF POPULATION

In the past week, nearly 35,000 people got their first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly 3,000 people got a second shot. Health minister Dorothy Shephard has said she expects upwards of 40,000 people per week to receive a shot in the coming weeks, in order to meet the province’s goal of a first shot for every New Brunswicker who wants one by the beginning of July.

Just over 35% of the total population have now received a first shot, about 308,000 people. Just shy of 30,000 people have received two shots of a vaccine.

Supply should not be a problem in the coming weeks. Last week, New Brunswick received 75,000 doses of a vaccine, the most of any week since the rollout began. As of Sunday’s report, there are just over 65,000 doses in the province, waiting to be administered.

Anyone 50 and older is eligible to receive a vaccine, as well as people 16 and older with two or more chronic conditions.
