CUMBERLAND INCLUDED IN FIRST “BACK TO GREEN” PHASE

At long last, the provincial government signed off on a New Brunswick-Cumberland bubble.

As soon as 75% of New Brunswick’s population has received one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, New Brunswickers will be able to run to Amherst and back without self-isolating or mandatory testing.

As of today, 73.6% of the eligible population has been inoculated with at least one dose.

The same rules will apply to Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and the Avignon and Témiscouata regions in Quebec. Travel registration will still be required.

Health Minister Dorothy Shephard says the decision was made earlier this week, due to Cumberland’s low case count. The Cumberland Community Health Network hasn’t had a new case of COVID-19 since June 3rd, and has only one active case.

The rest of Nova Scotia will remain excluded from the bubble until the second phase of the “back to green.”

VACCINE CLINICS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Buses will take consenting students between the ages of 12 and 15 to walk-in vaccine clinics next week, between June 14th to 18th.

Schools will contact students and parents directly concerning specific dates and times. Participating students will need a parent/guardian to sign a consent form and bring their Medicare card with them.

Children under 16 are given the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

Any children with pre-existing appointments are encouraged to keep those appointments instead.

ONLY ONE NEW CASE TODAY

There is just one new case of COVID-19 in New Brunswick today.

The case is in Zone 3 (Fredericton region), and is a close contact of a previously reported case.

Five people have recovered from the disease since yesterday, bringing the province’s active case count down to 97.

Four patients remain in the hospital, including one person who is in an intensive care unit outside of New Brunswick. Three people are in New Brunswick hospitals, including one who requires intensive care.
