COVID update: nearly 23% of New Brunswickers have had a first dose, one new case in Zone 1 over the weekend

The vaccination rollout in New Brunswick continues to ramp up. As of Sunday’s report, 22.85% of the population has now been vaccinated with at least one dose of a vaccine. That’s up from just over 17% last week.

Nearly 43,000 people in New Brunswick received their first dose in the past week, the highest numbers since the rollout began. Just over 2700 people received a second dose.

New Brunswick also received additional shipments of vaccine doses in the past week. The province now has over 58,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine waiting to be administered.

CASE UPDATE: ONE NEW CASE IN ZONE 1 THIS WEEKEND

New Brunswick reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, and 11 new cases on Saturday.

In Zone 1, just one new case was reported over the weekend, on Saturday, and was deemed a contact of a previously reported case.

As of Sunday afternoon there are 153 active cases of COVID-19 in NB, and 16 of those cases are in Zone 1.

NEW POTENTIAL FLIGHT EXPOSURE

Public health updated its potential public exposure list over the weekend to include Air Canada flight 8906 arriving in Moncton from Montreal on April 15.

Public Health recently opened up testing access to anyone who have been in a potential public exposure area, regardless of symptoms.

PEI announced its second hospitalization due to COVID-19 over the weekend. A child under 10 years old has been admitted to hospital after contracting COVID-19 along with two adults during travel outside Atlantic Canada.

Nova Scotia has 49 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, and reported that 22 of its recent cases were due to variants of concern, including the UK, South African, and one case of the Brazilian variant.
