New Brunswick has seven new cases of COVID-19 to report, including two in Zone 1 (Moncton region).
Both of those cases are contacts of previously reported cases.
Zone 3 (Fredericton region) also has two new cases, as dose Zone 6 (Bathurst region).
Zone 7 (Miramichi region) has one new case under investigation, a person in their twenties.
Six people recovered from the disease, including two in Zone 1, but seven patients are still in the hospital battling COVID-19.
One patient is actually hospitalized outside of the province, and is in an intensive care unit.
The province did not specify where the person is hospitalized.
The other six patients are in New Brunswick hospitals, including two who are in intensive care units.
The province announced that more than 50% of the province over the age of 12 has been vaccinated with at least one dose, but with those under 12 included that adds up to just under 45% percent.
The province says that 48.2% of Zone 1’s population over 12 is vaccinated with one dose, which puts it in 5th place out of seven zones.
Department of Health spokesperson Shawn Berry says there’s a few reasons why the stats differ depending on the health zone, including the age of each zone’s population and appointment times.
Berry says older populations have been eligible for longer, so therefore were vaccinated sooner than younger ones.
Zones 4 (Edmundston region) and 7 (Miramichi region) lead with 56.8% and 56% respectively, which according to Berry is due to Miramichi being the first place in the province to provide vaccines and Edmundston’s recent outbreak.
During the outbreak, the province rerouted some vaccine doses to the Edmundston region to prevent further death and hospitalization.
Zone 6 (Bathurst region) just passes halfway at 50.9%, with Zone 5 (Campbellton region) just behind at 50.8%.
The two zones behind Zone 1 are Zone 2 (Saint John region) at 46.6% and Zone 3 (Fredericton region) at 47.2%.
So far, over 350,000 New Brunswickers have been inoculated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
