Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is reeling as he loses top cabinet ministers, including Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and Housing Minister Sean Fraser.
Fraser, who was Nova Scotia’s representative in cabinet, says he won’t be seeking re-election in order to spend more time with family.
Fraser has generally been seen as a good communicator and a top cabinet performer, with his name sometimes floated as the person who could one day replace Trudeau.
His resume includes several parliamentary secretary roles before he was named immigration minister and was later tapped to lead the housing file.

Nova Scotia’s Liberal Party says it will give up on a legal challenge about the distribution of Tim Hortons gift cards by a Progressive Conservative candidate during last month’s provincial election.
The Liberals had asked the Nova Scotia Supreme Court to declare that the gift card handouts to potential voters in the Lunenburg riding constituted a “corrupt practice” under the province’s Elections Act.
Tory candidate Susan Corkum-Greek’s campaign manager resigned after admitting he handed out 25 gift cards worth at a Tim Hortons drive-thru.
Corkum-Greek won her riding easily as the Tories captured 43 of the legislature’s 55 seats in the November 26th election.
