DTI still quiet on Wheaton Bridge options as petition calls for preservation of covered bridge and farmers call for modern crossing

On today’s show, a petition calling for the preservation of the Wheaton Covered Bridge on the High Marsh Road has garnered over 1000 signatures so far. We talk with petition organizer Elita Rahn about why she thinks keeping the 100-year-old bridge is important, even if it means building another bridge to accommodate heavier farm equipment. We also hear from farmers Weldon Estabrooks and Fred Anderson about the impact of the closed bridge, and what they would like to see happen with the Tantramar River crossing.

Plus in news briefs: The municipality has postponed a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and other activities for Moonlight Madness tonight, but participating shops, vendors and fundraisers will go ahead with the downtown shopping event. And voters in Amherst and the Nova Scotia riding of Cumberland North will have a chance to hear from candidates on Sunday at a forum organized by the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce.
