It’s election day in New Brunswick.
In Sackville, people can vote at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Elections NB is encouraging voters to bring their voter information cards with them to the polling station, to help speed up the process and reduce the amount of time the voters have to spend inside the polling stations.
Voters without a card will be directed to a special team at each polling station that will ensure the individual is on the voters list or add the person to the list, if necessary.
First-time voters, or those who don’t have their voter identification card, should bring a piece of identification that includes name, signature and address.
Some COVID-precautions have been added to the process of voting, but the process will be familiar to anyone who has gone shopping or run other errands during the pandemic:
Physical distancing requirements will be enforced when people are voting. To help with this, election workers will limit the number of electors allowed inside a polling location at any one time.
Election workers will be required to wear masks or face shields during their interactions with the public.
As for voters, they are “welcome” to wear masks, but not required unless physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Elections NB will have hand sanitizer available as voters enter and exit the polling station, and designated workers will clean high contact surfaces and equipment such as the markers used for marking ballots.
All this may make lineups longer, especially with social distancing in effect. But far more people have already voted this year than in past elections. More than 133,000 voted in advance polls this year, 44,000 more than in 2018.
