UPDATE, June 2: The New Brunswick RCMP issued a release the morning of June 2, 2021. A story reflecting that release is available here.

The family of a man missing since Wednesday, May 26 are looking for information on his whereabouts.

Jamie Leard was last seen on Wednesday after dropping off a friend in Cap-Pelé. His family is very concerned about his well-being, says cousin Aliesha Stright. The 37-year-old “always called”, she says, and although the RCMP have not issued a missing person notice, family and friends have been circulating his photo on social media, in search of information.

“If there’s anything you see, call the RCMP,” says Stright. “His mother is worried sick, she’s hardly eating and sleeping,” she says, adding that even if he’s “hiding and doesn’t want to be found”, she hopes he will let someone know he’s alive.

Leard lives with friends between Port Elgin and Cape Tormentine, and works at a nearby potato farm. He rides his ATV in the area, and owns two of the vehicles, both of which are still at his home, says Stright.

The New Brunswick RCMP have not issued any statements about Leard, and have not yet responded to a request for information about the investigation. But Stright says the police are in daily contact with Doris Leard, Jamie’s mother, and have located his car, all the way in Springhill. Doris Leard first put in a wellness check request with the Sackville detachment of the RCMP on Friday.

On Tuesday, police tape went up around Leard’s home, and a roommate of Leard’s was run over by a car, says Stright.

“For sure we are concerned,” says Stright. “We’re going to start a search of our own if someone doesn’t do something soon.”

“Everyone is saying he’s somewhere around home,” she says, “but there’s no way of knowing.”
