Starting tomorrow, no visitors will be allowed at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, with some exceptions.
Horizon Health Network announced Thursday that due to the high number of people in hospital with COVID-19 in the province, they are bringing in enhanced visitor restrictions for all hospitals and health care facilities on Friday.
Horizon interim President and CEO Dr. John Dornan says in a release that the restrictions are aimed at, “reducing the chance of COVID-19 infecting our patients, clients, staff and physicians.”
Horizon says some exceptions are in place for certain patients, including patients who are eligible for a designated support person, such as those in the following populations:
- End of Life – Palliative Care
- Obstetrics (Labour and Delivery, Postpartum)
- Neonatal
- Intensive Care/Critical Care Units
- Pediatrics
- Patients who have been in hospital for 14 days or longer
- Patients with intellectual / communication impairments (cognitive impairment leading to agitation and inability to console; communication impairment which affects care)
As well, Horizon says patients visiting an Emergency Department and outpatient clinics who require assistance may have one support person only.
Horizon says designated support people must not have COVID-19 symptoms, and must take part in active screening before entering the hospital. They must also wear a mask, wash their hands, and only enter their loved one’s room.
Horizon’s hospitals and health care facilities included in these restrictions are:
- Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen
- Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton
- Grand Manan Hospital
- Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph in Perth-Andover
- Miramichi Regional Hospital
- Oromocto Public Hospital
- Sackville Memorial Hospital

- St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John
