This is a setup typical of doing a remote broadcasting with two analog microphones and our laptop + SSL interface, or an analog stereo mixer feeding into the SSL interface.
What to bring:
- Computer with MIXXX and VNC Viewer
- “SSL 2” Audio interface + USB-C cable or USB-USB-C adapter to connect to computer
- XLR and/or ¼ inch cables to connect audio interface to mixer output/soundsystem. 1 cable for mono, 2 cables for stereo.
- Extra device (phone, etc) for checking the feed
- Headphones
- Optional: Mic and cable to connect to audio interface, if live on site announcing
- Optional: CHMA banner or signage
You’ll be borrowing the audio interface and headphones from the Digital Media Lab, so be sure to book the studio for the full duration that you’ll be needing the interface.

Instructions for using CHMA Laptop:
Start up MacBook Air, connect to power supply and log into “CHMA Guest” There’s no password.
Connect SSL 2 interface to Mac with USB-C cable. Connect Headphones to SSL 2 interface headphone.
On SSL Interface make sure the channels are selected to “Line Input” if using 1/4” connector on back, or not, if using XLR (Microphone) Inputs.
Adjust “Gain” knobs on SSL 2 until green goes into yellow, but never into red.
Check that audio input is set to the audio interface in the Input section in the Mixxx Preferences.
Open the Mixxx app.
- Press “TALK” on MIC 1 (it will turn orange). Press “TALK” on MIC 2 if using input 2.
- Press the ON AIR Icon in the top right menu.
- Output level can be seen in middle meter.
- Input levels need to be monitored: ***Should be green into yellow, not yellow into red****
- Use another device to check the stream at https://chma.out.airtime.pro/chma_a
- You could also visit chma.airtime.pro “LIVE DJ” if all is working. The stream won’t be broadcast until the proper URL
To record:
- Press the REC icon to record.
To broadcast:
- Open VNC Viewer
- In Megaseg search bar type “Airtime”
- Select the URL and use the single arrow to place in cue.
- When done, press “advance” to get out of live broadcast.
