(NB-Lieutenant-Governor)

Louise Imbeault will be officially installed as the next lieutenant-governor of New Brunswick today.

Lieutenant-Governor Brenda Murphy and Premier Susan Holt will take part in the ceremony in Fredericton.

Murphy will be the province’s 33rd lieutenant-governor.

(NB-Prison-Assault) (WATCH FOR DATING)

A medium security prison in southeastern New Brunswick has been put in lockdown after an inmate was assaulted.

Correctional Service Canada says it happened at Dorchester Penitentiary, where visits have also been suspended pending a search of the institution.

It says the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of both staff and inmates.

Normal operations will resume once it’s been deemed safe to do so. (The Canadian Press)



(NS-Lunenburg-Attempted-Murder)

Three adults and two minors are facing charges after a Lunenburg youth was stabbed earlier this month.

The R-C-M-P say it happened on January 12th when the youth was attacked while walking along Main Street in Lunenburg and left seriously injured.

The Mounties say five people were arrested between January 12th and 17th, with three 18-year-olds now facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

(NL-Reno-Repair-Scam)

Provincial police in Newfoundland and Labrador are looking for a suspect in a renovation and repair scam targeting residents of northeast Avalon.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it received a number of reports of a man soliciting services like home renovation, driveway repair and other property maintenance.

They say the man takes a deposit but then doesn’t return to do the work.

(NL-Fraud-Scams)

Newfoundland and Labrador R-C-M-P have some tips for residents on how to protect themselves against fraud and scams.

Police say they want to protect the public from a series of online and telephone scams, as well as scams on buy and sell sites, going on in the province.

They’re urging people to keep online passwords secure and to make sure their passwords for online shopping accounts or financial institutions are regularly updated.

They also suggest that people shopping for merchandise on sites like Marketplace and Kijiji never pay for items until they’ve received them. (The Canadian Press)

(NL-Immigration-Allocations)

Public information sessions are being held in Newfoundland and Labrador this week about recent changes to federal economic immigration allocations.

The virtual sessions will give a detailed analysis of the changes as well as their potential impacts on businesses and organizations in the province.

The sessions are being held tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.
