A 21-year-old woman has succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a car yesterday afternoon in Halifax.

Halifax Regional Police provided the update after responding to the crash at the corner of Robie Street and Veterans Memorial Lane.

The woman was originally taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and a man was arrested for dangerous operation of a conveyance.

Officers had said the man was involved in another collision with a vehicle before the woman was hit.  (CTV News)

Prince Edward Island R-C-M-P are reporting 230 impaired driving arrests last year.

Mounties say around 60 per cent of those cases involved alcohol while the rest involved drugs.

Over 35 per cent of the investigations stemmed from tips from the public while 13 came from collisions.

Most cases were the result of  R-C-M-P traffic enforcement and checkpoints.  (The Canadian Press)

Halifax Regional Municipality residents and transit users in the area are being advised about a military training exercise tonight in the vicinity of the Bedford Rifle Range.

The Department of National Defence says the exercise will take place from 6 p-m to 10 p-m local time and does not involve the use of weapons or live ammunition.

The department says the exercise is for personnel to become more familiar with equipment and that proper procedures are followed during nighttime operations.

It says safety teams will monitor and control all activities.  (The Canadian Press)

(NS-France-Whales)

France has rejected a bid to move two killer whales to a proposed refuge in Nova Scotia.

The Whale Sanctuary Project says France has turned down the group’s plan to build a coastal refuge in Nova Scotia for captive whales to provide an oceanside retirement home for Wikie and Keijo.

The two surviving killer whales at Marineland Antibes will now be sent to Spain’s Loro Parque zoo in the Canary Islands, off the northwest coast of Africa.

The project president says they were rejected in part because officials with France’s Ecological Diversity Department were concerned about water temperatures in Nova Scotia.  (The Canadian Press)

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid will soon be suiting up alongside his childhood idol Sidney Crosby.

The two will be playing together for the time as Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off next month.

The Nova Scotian continues to beat back Father Time at age 37 with 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points in 52 games this season for his Pittsburgh Penguins.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist largely remains the same.  (The Canadian Press)
