(PEI-Fortified-Buildings)

P-E-I’s government is asking Islanders what they think about a new bill that could regulate the use of excessive security features on some buildings.

The proposed legislation aims to address buildings that have extreme security. such as reinforced windows and bullet proof glass.

The bill claims regulation would prevent interference with emergency response, as such measures could prevent firefighters or police from gaining entry to the structure.

The draft also considers the impacts of high security on a structure in the event of an emergency — but if the additions prevent people from getting out, such as during a fire.
