On today’s show, a proposed increase to the height limit for buildings in Sackville’s downtown business district didn’t receive much opposition on Monday afternoon at a Tantramar council public hearing. We listen in to some of the concerns raised about the impact of a larger buildings in the downtown, and speak to developer John Lafford about his plans for a seven-storey building on a block of York Street stretching from Ford Lane down to but not including the AIL office in the former NB Tel building.
Lafford says work on the site could begin as early as May 2025, just two months before he expects a new five-storey building at 133 Main Street to open a fully rented 71 units for occupancy.
Plus in other local news, we listen in to a Convocation Hall ceremony for the installation of Dr. Ian Sutherland as Mount Allison’s 16th president and vice-chancellor. Sutherland shares his vision for the mission of universities, and guest speaker Ian Hanomansing reminisces about the school’s role in his family history.
