On today’s show, we stop in to Tantramar MLA Megan Mitton’s office for a year end chat about the issues she’s fired up about, including health care, housing, and maintaining provincial infrastructure.

Mitton says her hopeful feelings heading back to Fredericton after voters ousted Blaine Higgs and elected new Premier Susan Holt are still there, spurred on by a spirit of collaboration in the legislature. When it came to 3% rent cap legislation recently passed, Mitton says the Liberal government was willing to discuss amendments, and adopted some of those put forward by the Green MLA.

And when it comes to infrastructure, Mitton says she has met with Chuch Chiasson, the new minister of transportation and infrastructure, to talk about the Wheaton Covered Bridge, route 955, and the Chignecto Isthmus. “I’m going to be following up with him in January to say, okay, now you’ve had a chance to be briefed on this file, where do we go from here?”

Plus in briefs:

  • The Sackville RCMP are hosting Stuff A Cruiser events today and tomorrow at Foodland and Rose’s Independent grocery stores.
  • A group of organizations, including two Mount Allison unions, is calling for a repeal of new caps and rule changes adversely affecting international students throughout the country.
