Mount Allison brings home the gold, again

After a year that included a faculty strike and a tuition hike more than twice the inflation rate, Mount Allison has again secured one of the top spots in the annual MacLean’s Magazine university rankings.

For the 22nd time in 30 years, MacLeans has ranked Mount Allison as the number one primarily undergraduate university in Canada.

In a press release, Mount Allison President Jean-Paul Boudreau says the rankings are “an important external measure of the University’s reputation, and together, with other measures, help us share the Mount Allison story and experience.”

Journalist Katie Underwood writes in MacLean’s that, “most, if not all, of Mount Allison’s new programs were clearly designed to prepare its grads for the multi-hyphenate-loving job market.”

Underwood specifically mentions new programs like “geocomputing” which combines the theory and practice of computing and geography, and a new, interdisciplinary women and gender studies degree.

Underwood also gives a shout out to, “Navigate MtA, a student-to-student wellness support program that’s new this fall,” and, “the “mental health initiatives provided by [Mount Allison’s] comprehensive Wellness Centre Services.”

“This past year has been particularly challenging as we continually adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Boudreau, “but accolades like these show the importance of a strong team across campus with an emphasis on both academics and support for students.”
