Mount Allison University has announced changes to its pandemic protocols to take effect on Monday, October 12.
In an email to students Tuesday, university vice president Robert Inglis says that students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks outdoors on campus, as long as physical distancing can be maintained.
Outdoor spaces on the university campus will now also be open to members of the general public. Access to buildings remains restricted, except for the Fitness Centre, which will re-open to members who are not students, faculty, or staff. The Fitness Centre will be limited to 15 people (including staff) at any given time.
While mask-wearing will no longer required outdoors on campus as of Monday, masks are still required inside buildings such as the library, Student Centre, residences, and academic buildings. The email says that includes “when seated and studying/working in public spaces (e.g. Gracie’s, the Pond, etc.)”
The letter says student health ambassadors and security will be reminding students to follow the rules.
“Failure to adhere may result in students being asked to leave a space and/or getting documented under the Student Code of Conduct,” the email reads.
