Mount Allison has announced some additional pandemic control measures for campus in advance of classes commencing for winter term on Monday, January 10, including updates to mask rules and campus access.

The school had already ramped up indoor mask requirements, but now says that cloth masks without a filter are no longer considered acceptable protection. The school will require masks be either three-layered or two-layered with filters. Masks must be worn indoors unless working alone, eating or drinking, or doing other excepted activities like athletics and performance. Masks are not required outdoors on campus unless two metres of distance cannot be maintained.

The university is also restricting campus access to staff and students only, including at the fitness centre, which will reopen on January 8. Campus cafes and restaurants will require a Mount Allison ID of customers, and require masks expect when actually eating or drinking.

The Ralph Pickard Bell Library will be closed to the public, with curbside pick-up available. The Owens Art Gallery will remain closed until January 24, with virtual exhibitions available on the gallery website.

There will be no public in-person events or performances until after January 24, including drama, music, and speakers.

As previously announced, classes will be online for the first two weeks, until at least January 24.
