No more new cases, but one more death at the Drew

The results of testing on Tuesday returned no new positive cases of COVID-19 at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville. Executive director Linda Shannon sent the good news home to families in a letter Friday afternoon.

Unfortunately, Shannon’s letter also reported some sad news: another resident in the facility passed away. There have now been a total of eight deaths in the Drew Nursing Home since a COVID-19 outbreak was first detected on September 13.

There are currently just four active cases of COVID-19 in the Drew, two in staff and two in residents. In total, 29 residents and 10 staff have tested positive during the outbreak.

Another round of testing took place on Friday, and results are expected within 48 to 72 hours. Shannon also said there are two outstanding staff test results from Tuesday still to come.

Shannon says the Drew is, “proud of our staff who has worked extremely hard to contain this outbreak.” Even with the latest round of negative results, Shannon writes, “we must continue to remain diligent to ensure this continues.”

Shannon thanked community members for their support, and Drew residents and families for their patience and understanding.
