(NB-Train-Collision)

Police in New Brunswick are investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a train.

Police responded to reports of the collision near the Simms Corner intersection in Saint John late Friday afternoon.

They say the train was travelling west towards a pulp mill when it collided with a vehicle that had gone through the flashing red lights and onto the tracks.

There was extensive damage to the vehicle but nobody was injured.

(NB-Fatal-Crash)

A 17-year-old boy has died after a single-vehicle crash in New Brunswick.

Caledonia R-C-M-P responded to a crash on Nixon Road in Turtle Creek early Saturday.

Mounties say the 17-year-old driver of the car died at the scene after he was ejected from the vehicle and a 20-year-old passenger was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the crash occurred when the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a power pole.

(NB-Family-Violence-Prevention-Month)

The New Brunswick government has declared November as Family Violence Prevention Month.

Premier Susan Holt says the month serves as a reminder that every person deserves to live in a safe and supportive environment that’s free from abuse.

New Brunswick’s minister responsible for women’s equality, Lyne Chantal Boudreau, says family violence is an  issue that requires collective action.

The provincial declaration on Family Violence Prevention Month is signed each year to renew the provincial government’s commitment to prevent family violence.

Today marks the final day on the campaign trail before Nova Scotia’s election day on Tuesday. 

All three major political parties have media conferences scheduled for this morning in Halifax. 

Elections Nova Scotia says that early voting is down compared to the previous 2021 election. 

As of Saturday, more than 147,000 early votes were cast, compared to 166,400 votes at the same point in 2021.

(NB-Weapons-Arrest)

Police in Saint John, New Brunswick say they arrested a 30-year-old man for a weapons offence. 

On Saturday evening, police responded to reports of an armed person inside a building on Waterloo Street. 

Police contained the building and arrested the man around 7:30 p-m, and no injuries were reported. 

The name of the 30-year-old man has not been released, and police say he remains in custody.

(NS-Crosby-Goals)

Nova Scotia hockey superstar Sidney Crosby has scored his 600th N-H-L goal. 

Crosby became the 21st player to reach this milestone in the second period of the Pittsburgh Penguin’s game against the Utah Hockey Club. 

The Penguins, with Crosby as captain, lost the game six to one.

The Leader of Canada’s Green Party had strong words for Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservatives while campaigning in Halifax with her provincial counterpart.

Elizabeth May attended a campaign event Saturday ahead of tomorrow’s provincial election. 

The Green leader criticized P-C leader Tim Houston for calling a snap election after passing fixed-term election legislation in 2021.

May told Houston: “shame on you.”
