A seniors’ advocacy group says it is “very much concerned” about Elections Nova Scotia’s “short-sighted” decision not to send printed voter cards in the mail.

Bill VanGorder, of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons, says the decision raises alarm bells because many seniors don’t use the internet regularly, and rely on the postal service for voting information.

Elections Nova Scotia says the decision not to send the cards was difficult, but there is a voter awareness campaign in the works to tell voters where to cast their ballots.

In the 2021 provincial election, Elections Nova Scotia estimated seniors accounted for 35 per cent of total voters.

Two people are hospitalized at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.

The province’s health agency says people can get vaccinated to prevent infection.

That is about the total number of visitors for 2023, the agency says.

A spokesperson for the Halifax Port Authority says there were 201 cruise ships docking in Halifax this season.

(PEI-Shelter)

Housing advocates in P-E-I say they are thrilled about a new overnight emergency shelter opening in Summerside, but say the city will need to expand.

Elysha Whitlock, the director of a non-profit that addresses homelessness, says the 10 bed shelter won’t be enough to meet demand.

She says she knows of 53 unhoused people in the city.

Clients can register to stay at the shelter for up to 30 days.
