Person of interest in Amherst emergency alert located, no public safety issue at this time

An emergency alert issued by the Amherst Police Department at around 1:15 pm. The force says there is no threat to the pubic at this time.

Amherst police say they have located a person of interest that was the subject of emergency alert issued around 1:15pm.

Police say there is no threat to the public at this time, and they are continuing to investigate the matter.

The 1:15pm alert was in response to a “possible sighting of a person who may have been in possession of a firearm in the area of Church and East Pleasant St.”

By 1:32pm, they sent out a follow up alert saying the person had been located. No other details were provided.

If you did not receive an emergency alert, it could be that your mobile device or your cellular network are not compatible.

According to the CRTC, “to be able to receive wireless alerts, your mobile device must be an LTE device like a smartphone, compatible with wireless public alerting, and connected to an LTE cellular network at the time the emergency alert is issued.”

Not all phones meet Canadian alerting standards. You can check your phone’s compatibility, and do other troubleshooting, at the AlertReady website.
