One of six rural hospitals targeted for cuts in February is now facing temporary cuts due to a shortage of nurses available to work at the hospital.

Horizon Health Network announced that Hôtel-Dieu of St. Joseph hospital in Perth Andover will lose seven in-patient beds, about a third of its capacity, in an interim plan to address urgent staffing challenges.

There are not enough nurses to properly staff the hospital at full capacity.

Similar temporary cuts took place in 2019, when 6 beds were cut.

Horizon says the Emergency Department at Hotel-Dieu of St Joseph remains open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and Palliative Care services will continue.
