The RCMP responded to a call where shots were fired at a vehicle near Millennium Boulevard and Killam Drive in Moncton at approximately 8:30 this morning.
The shots appeared to come from the woods of Centennial Park. The RCMP did not clarify if there was anyone in the vehicle at the time, but there were no injuries reported.
The RCMP confirmed that the incident seems to be isolated to the Centennial Park area. At approximately 6PM, a second emergency alert was issued to inform impacted areas that they can resume their daily activities.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
The RCMP is still looking for individuals with information about the situation to call the police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, immediately.
The RCMP says in the emergency alert and on social media that people should not call 9-1-1 or other police lines with questions about the situation.
Information about police operations and locations should not be posted to social media.
The Moncton COVID-19 Assessment Centre and blood collection clinic housed in the Moncton Coliseum have been cancelled due to the ongoing RCMP operation.
Before the second alert, residents, schools, businesses, and people in the area were instructed to lock their doors, shelter in place, and stay away from windows.
Officers were present at impacted schools and daycares during pick up hours.
An emergency alert was sent to cell phones between 10:15AM and 10:20AM this morning, approximately two hours after the initial call, instructing anyone in that area to lock doors, take shelter in place, and stay away from windows.
