Rotary volunteers help as vaccine rollout picks up pace in Sackville

If you noticed some brightly covered vests loitering outside the Corner Drug Store on Tuesday or Wednesday this week, fear not, the yellow vest movement has not come to Sackville.

Those are actually Rotary Club of Sackville volunteers, and they are assisting the vaccine rollout at the Corner Drug Store.

Listen to Sackville Rotary president Marita Webb explaining what they are up to:

Webb says that Corner Drug called the Rotary for help this week in managing its increasing number of doses to be administered, which is more than double the number administered in the first week of the rollout.

Volunteers escort vaccine recipients to their vehicles and wait with them for the requisite 15 minutes after they receive their shot to watch for the very rare occurrence of an allergic reaction.

“It allows the waiting area and the vaccination area to be more open and more people to flow through on a regular basis,” says Webb. About 16 volunteers are helping out at the Corner Drug Store this week, she says.

The pharmacy will vaccinate approximately 240 people over 2 days.
