Salem Breakfast Club needs casual volunteers

A black bulletin board is on a white brick wall indoors. "SALEM BREAKFAST CLUB" in multicoloured letters is posted to the board. There is a boarder on the top and bottom of the board that is a garland made of circular images of food. A grey cart with wheels is in front of the board. On the cart is plastic bowls, yogurt, disposable cutlery, and small cartons of milk.

School’s in, so food security operations for children have moved back into the cafeteria.

The Breakfast Club is a universal program, meaning it is provided every school day for free.

This year there are five “grab and go” stations for kids, with fruit, cheese, granola bars, yogurt, milk and cereal.

Salem Elementary school needs volunteers for their breakfast club.

Volunteers can help once a week or every second week.

If commitment to regular shifts is an issue, volunteers can also sign up to fill in shifts occasionally.

School buses arrive at 7:25am, which is earlier than previous years, so volunteers need to arrive as early as 7:10am.

If that’s too early, it’s possible to show up at 7:25 to help with serving rather than preparation.

Due to COVID-19 policies, all volunteers need to sign in at the office, wear a mask in the building, and follow all public health guidelines.

Criminal record checks are also required.

Interested folks can contact Jocelyn Dowling at jdowling@mta.ca with their availability.
