When school breakfast programs had to halt in March, many families were left without their reliable source of food.

Childrens’ food security was largely operated out of the Middle Sackville Baptist church in cooperation with the Sackville Commons.

The Tantramar School Food Response Group, a Tantramar COVID-19 Task Force subgroup, has delivered food to households that need it since the beginning of the pandemic, and will continue to do so during the school year.

The group is now a part of an East Coast pilot with Second Harvest’s Food Rescue program.

The program will supply food to the group, but they are still working to source funding and items for food storage and distribution.

The Tantramar COVID-19 Task Force is asking for community support so that the School Food Response Group can meet the community’s needs.

They are asking for the following:

  • Access to freezer space in the community
  • A donation of a freezer
  • Assistance with deliveries to families
