Self-checkout: You can request your COVID-19 test online

A laptop is open and the Government of NB website is shown on the screen. The web page says "The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health. COVID-19 Self-Assessment."

Hours of waiting on hold with 811 may not be a hallmark of COVID-19 testing for much longer.

As of September 21st, an online self-referral system for COVID-19 testing is now available for New Brunswickers.

811 is of course still available for COVID-19 related questions or concerns, but it’s just no longer a necessary step in arranging a COVID test.

Folks experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 can complete a self-assessment at www.gnb.ca/coronavirus .

Symptoms have included:

Fever above 38 degrees Celsius
A new cough, or worsening chronic cough
Sore throat
Runny nose
Headache
A new onset of fatigue
A new onset of muscle pain
Diarrhea
Loss of sense of taste
Loss of sense of smell
In children, purple markings on the fingers and toes
Difficulty breathing

Symptom list reference: Government of NB website.

Folks with COVID-19 may have little to no symptoms, and symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to the virus.

It can take up to 24-48 hours after submitting a testing request for a test assessment centre to get in contact with you and schedule an appointment.

Please note that many Government of New Brunswick web pages about testing have not been updated, and may still only refer you to 811.

CHMA called the Chief Medical Officer of Health General Information line and confirmed that online testing referrals can be used instead of calling 811.

811 and family physicians are still options for testing referrals.
