Over the weekend New Brunswick saw 26 new cases of COVID-19, but only two of those were in Zone 1.

On Friday, there were seven new cases with one in Zone 1.

CBC News broke that a new case of the UK variant was discovered on Friday, which means there are four cases identified in the province so far.

CBC’s Elizabeth Fraser wrote that the Premier confirmed the case in an interview Friday morning, and yet the new case of the variant was not mentioned in the government press release published that afternoon.

Health Department spokesperson Bruce MacFarlane confirmed that the new case was related to a previously identified case in an email to CBC.

As for which health zone it is in, that information is not yet available.

Variants take multiple days to identify, so New Brunswick has to play catch up when it comes to the case count.

12 new cases were announced on Saturday, the majority of which were in Zone 4.

None of those 12 were in Zone 1.

There were two more deaths due to underlying complications, including COVID-19, announced on Saturday.

Both people were from Zone 4, and one was a resident at Le Pavillon Le Royer care home.

Sunday saw seven new cases announced, with just one in Zone 1 in a person aged 19 or under.

As of today there are 203 active cases of COVID-19, the lowest it’s been since January 10th of this year.

43 of those active cases are in Zone 1, the Southeast Region.

Last Thursday Chief Medical Officer Dr. Russell suggested that should case numbers improve, Zone 1 may return to orange early this week.

Nova Scotia’s numbers remain low, hovering under ten throughout the weekend with just one new travel-related case announced yesterday.

Two Nova Scotians were fined $1,000 for failing to self-isolate.

An officer pulled the vehicle over for having expired plates, and discovered that the passenger had recently travelled outside of Canada.

The passenger was staying with the driver, and in cases of self-isolating with other people everyone in the household is required to self-isolate.

Both people were fined $1,000 for breaking self-isolation protocols.

PEI detected a new case on Friday, although the person resides in another province.

Newfoundland and Labrador saw five new cases over the weekend, leaving the province with 16 active cases.
