The Vogue Cinema reopens, but no Film Society yet

The Vogue Cinema is reopening after many weeks of closure due to COVID-19.

The cinema was forced to bag up the popcorn and lock the doors during the province’s recent snap to red, and is “excited to be back open.”

Starting this Friday, patrons can watch the new “Tom and Jerry” movie, provided they follow the orange level COVID-19 guidelines.

The restrictions require social distancing throughout the venue, as well as a maximum of 50 patrons at once.

Showtimes are somewhat limited, with screenings available from Friday thru Sunday and Tuesday evening.

Seats are also just $5.00 per person each showing, not just on the Vogue’s hallmark Tuesday “Cheap Nite.”

Sackville Film Society organizer Thaddeus Holownia says he is waiting before continuing the beloved Thursday tradition.

Most of the society’s 80 patrons are older, which Holownia says may make them more cautious when it comes to outings during COVID-19.

He “wants to respect that,” so is postponing all Film Society screenings until the province switches Zone 1 to the yellow phase of COVID-19 restrictions.

“It breaks my heart,” says Holownia, but reports no discontent from Film Society patrons over the delay.
