New Brunswick has reported three new cases of COVID-19 in the province, but none related to the outbreak at Manoir Notre Dame in Moncton.
The new cases are in Fredericton, Saint John and Campbellton. While the Campbellton case is still under investigation, the Fredericton and Saint John cases have been deemed related to travel.
At a press conference late Thursday afternoon, Premier Blaine Higgs announced that masks would be mandatory in most indoor public places in New Brunswick as of midnight.
According to a provincial press release, spaces with a mandatory mask order include:
- public spaces where the public and employees interact (retail businesses, malls, service centres, places of worship, restaurants and bars except while eating, etc.) and organized indoor gatherings in public spaces (e.g. weddings, funerals, etc.);
- common areas like lobbies, elevators and hallways, and public shared spaces including those in private sector and government workspaces; and
- public transportation.
Children under two are exempt from wearing masks, as well as those with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, says the release.
