Remembrance Day in Sackville
Today is Remembrance Day. The Sackville Legion will host a ceremony similar to last year, including a Colour Party march with a drummer and trumpeter, from the Legion to the Cenotaph at 10:50am. All wreathes and crosses have been placed at the Cenotaph by Legion Executive members ahead of time.
The Legion is asking that anyone in the general public wishing to leave a wreath, cross, or poppy do so after that ceremony. Patrons are welcome to visit the Legion following the service. Proof of vaccination and government ID are required to enter the Legion.
Circuit breaker ends for Sackville, still on for Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview
Sackville and the Tantramar region will come out of circuit breaker measures on Friday at 6pm, after five weeks under the rules that limited personal gatherings. The region now joins other parts of the province under the rules of the mandatory order, which limit personal gatherings to one household plus 20 others. While Sackville will enjoy some freedom to gather, the circuit breaker will continue for another seven days in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview, where recent case activity has been largely concentrated, according to public health.
Zone 2 (Saint John) will also come out of circuit breaker measures on Friday, but most of Zone 7 (Mirimachi) will start a circuit breaker.
Rally in support of CUPE on Friday
A rally in support of Sackville’s striking CUPE workers is being organized for Friday between noon and 1pm at the corner of York and Main. A graphic circulating on social media says, “Mount Allison faculty, staff, students, and other community members will gather with striking CUPE workers to show our support in their struggle for a fair contract.” The Mount Allison Faculty Association and Mount Allison Students’ Union have agreed to help publicize the event, which is being organized by politics professor Dave Thomas.
Cumberland superspreader event may not have impacted New Brunswick
Nova Scotia public health has not contacted their New Brunswick counterparts in relation to contact tracing for a superspreader event in Cumberland County. A multi-day faith-based gathering is the source of a number of clusters of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, including an outbreak at a long term care home in Pugwash.
New Brunswick Public Health says that although the two provinces collaborate regularly, they have not been contacted directly by Nova Scotia regarding the event.
COVID-19 update: vaccinations hit 76%, active cases climb
The province reported 69 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with active cases climbing to 548.
17 people are in hospital, with 11 in an ICU.
There were 11 new cases reported in Zone 1, with six cases under investigation and five traced to previous cases. Zone 1 has 218 active cases of COVID-19.
Vaccinations in the province have hit 76% of the full population, with 86% of those 12 and over fully vaccinated. Just under 8,000 new doses were administered in the past week, 1869 first doses and 6056 second doses.
People 65 and over who have been fully vaccinated more than 6 months ago are now eligible to book a third booster dose. Health care personnel, school personnel, First Nations community members, and people who received one or two doses of Astra Zeneca are also eligible. The province has also opened up third doses to people with mixed doses who are required to travel internationally. The next Sackville vaccination clinic is slated for November 17 at the Visitor Information Centre.
