A transport-trailer went off the Transcanada highway between Sackville and Aulac on Wednesday night in high winds and whiteout conditions. Sackville Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Green said the department got the call at about 10:20pm, and sent three trucks with 15 volunteer firefighters to the scene.

Green says the RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick were also on scene, and checked out the driver who had no injuries. The fire department checked the wreck for leaking fluids and then caution-taped the scene before leaving.

The RCMP took the driver to a motel and efforts were to be made today to remove the trucks, says Green.

The Tantramar Marsh area experienced extremely high wind speeds starting Wednesday night and Environment Canada is warning they will continue until midday Friday.

Green says that on Wednesday night, “the roads were very slippery and there was a lot of snow blowing across the road,” leaving the driver with poor visibility. “He had basically just slid off the road.”

Weather warnings continue today and Friday, with a flash freeze warning in effect for southeast New Brunswick as temperatures drop suddenly during the day Friday.
