Kids’ vaccines arriving today, rollout to begin this week

The first shipment of kids vaccines are expected to arrive in the province today. In a release Monday, the province says it expects to administer first doses through regional health authority clinics before the end of the week. The Vitalité Health Network has managed clinics in Sackville so far, and CHMA has reached out for details on when the next clinic in Sackville will be offered. About 54,500 children will be eligible to receive the vaccine.

COVID update: 62 new cases, outbreaks at Moncton Hospital and Dorchester Penitentiary

The province reported 62 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, with 20 of those cases in Zone 1. Thirteen of the Zone 1 cases are of unknown origin, but no new potential public exposure notices were issued yesterday for Zone 1.

Horizon announced that the stroke and family medicine unit at the Moncton Hospital is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19, and the designated support person program has been suspended for that unit.

Correctional Service Canada has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Dorchester Penitentiary. 50 people incarcerated in the medium-security unit have been diagnosed with COVID-19 so far in the outbreak, which was first reported on November 19. At least three staff people have tested positive with the disease. CSC says close to 86% of people in the unit are fully vaccinated and over 88% have received their first dose. All employees of CSC are required to be vaccinated by federal mandate.

Fire destroys home on Queens Road, no injuries

A Sackville man has been displaced by a fire that destroyed his small, wood-frame bungalow on Queen’s Road overnight Sunday night. Sackville fire chief Craig Bowser says the department responded to a structure fire Monday morning at 7:30am. When they arrived on scene the house was on the ground with extensive damage, says Bowser. The crew extinguished some hot spots after NB Power crews disconnected the electricity.

The man was not at home at the time of the fire, so there were no injuries. The Canadian Red Cross says the man is staying with relatives for now and has been helped by Red Cross volunteers with emergency purchases like clothing, food and some other essential needs.

Chief Bowser says there was no indication of the cause of the fire.
