Tuesday roundup: Active cases pass 1000; rapid test kits for un-vaxxed students; council tonight

COVID Update

Public Health reported 98 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the number of active cases to 1,037. The majority of new cases are still in unvaccinated people, but the proportion of fully vaccinated cases has grown recently, to 43 per cent on Monday.

There are 56 people in hospital due to the virus, with 20 in intensive care. Most people in hospital are unvaccinated, with just 9 fully vaccinated cases in hospital. One person under the age of 19 is currently in hospital.

Rapid testing available for unvaccinated students

Starting today, rapid test kits will be distributed to families of an unvaccinated students who are identified as a contact of an active case. Families will receive a five or ten day supply of rapid tests to use on a daily basis. After 24 hours of isolation and two consecutive negative rapid tests, the child will be able to return to school, while still completing the remaining daily tests.

Sackville town council meeting tonight

Sackville Town Council meets tonight for their regular monthly council meeting. The meeting kicks off at 7pm with a public question period and Citizen of the Year presentations. To attend the session in person, contact town clerk Donna Beal before 4pm on Tuesday. People can also attend or stream the meeting online.

Town council will decide tonight whether or not to go ahead with a recreation subsidy plan to help cover half the cost of youth programs in hockey, lacrosse, swimming, and skating. Councillors discussed the issue at their meeting last week, and CHMA news has a summary of the plan and the concerns with it on chmafm.com

Attic Broadcasting Annual General Meeting tonight

Attic Broadcasting Company Limited, the nonprofit organization that operates CHMA, is hosting it’s annual general meeting today, October 12th, at 6pm, online. Everyone is welcome, though voting is limited to members in good standing. Membership is $40 and available on the CHMA website. Nature-based infrastructure workshop Wednesday

The Chignecto Climate Change Collaborative is hosting a series of virtual workshops looking at how nature can help people adapt to climate change. The first virtual workshop takes place Wednesday and is billed as an introduction to natural infrastructure. Vincent Lambert-Song of the New Brunswick Environmental Network will teach general principles of nature-based infrastructure, and other applications of phytotechnologies, such as mining and water treatment. The workshop is happening Wednesday October 13 from 12pm-1pm, and you can register online at the EOS Eco Engergy website.
