Two Sackville residents were in court on Friday facing drug charges. Carrie Ann Sears and Colt Leblanc made their first appearance in Moncton provincial court on a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Judge Paul Duffie adjourned the matter until October 1 to allow LeBlanc’s lawyer, Michel Des Neiges, time to review disclosures from the crown that only arrived the day before.
The drug charge stems from two search warrants executed in late April in Upper Sackville, originally related to complaints of high-powered lasers aimed at airplanes in the area. Police said they observed drugs in plain sight while executing a search warrant related to that complaint, and so returned the next day with a second search warrant.
During the two searches, police seized a high-powered laser, a drone with drugs and money hidden inside, and a replica gun. Police also seized significant quantities of what they believed to be crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, hydromorphone pills and other prescriptions pills.
The search and seizures took place at a home on Upper Aboujagane Road owned by Colt LeBlanc. The home was closed temporarily by a court order on June 7, under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act.
The SCAN act allows the province, with the cooperation of the police, to evict residents suspected of certain illegal activities, and found to be causing disruptions in the neighbourhood.
Shortly after it was closed by the court, LeBlanc’s home was destroyed in a suspicious fire.
LeBlanc is currently in custody at the Shediac jail, being held in remand on assault charges.
Leblanc and Sears will be back in court on October 1, 2021 regarding the drug charges.
