Sackville Film Society programming continues as usual
Film fans may have noticed a note on the Vogue Cinema website saying the theatre is closed until September 27.
Some have speculated that the cinema was damaged during the fire two doors down on September 8th, but in fact, the building was spared, and has been operating since, both with regular programming and the Sackville Film Society’s fall season.
Vogue owner and manager Jeff Coates says this temporary closure was due to film availability, and the fact the Coates was away and currently has no staff to cover him in his absence.
Coates says he has yet to rehire staff at the cinema, but will as soon as attendance hits higher, more consistent numbers.
The Vogue will re-open its regular programming on September 27th with a run of the sci-fi thriller Tenet starring John David Washington.
Regular screenings at the Vogue run Sunday through to Wednesday.
On Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, the Sackville Film Society takes over the Vogue with its fall season.
The Society has sold limited numbers of seasons passes this year, to help reduce contact involved in ticket purchases.
The season kicked off last week, with about 45 people in attendance on Thursday evening, spread throughout the cinema’s seating area.
Society director Thaddeus Holownia told CHMA that with a maximum capacity of 270, he doesn’t think social distancing will be a challenge at the Vogue.
